The Yellow Oyster mushroom is native to eastern Russia, northern Asia and Japan. It is a saprotroph that acts as a primary decomposer of wood, especially deciduous trees. Therefore, when growing Oyster mushrooms indoors one must use a hardwood-amended substrate. Oysters, along with Lions Mane, are some of the easiest mushrooms species to grow, so are both a great choice for a beginner grower!

Oyster mushrooms are regarded as a delicacy in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese cuisine. This mushroom species is frequently served on its own, in soups, stuffed, or in stir-fry recipes. Oyster's are best when picked young; as the mushroom ages the flesh becomes tough and the flavor becomes acrid and unpleasant.
