Benefits of Lion's Mane Mushrooms

Nerve Support

The cognitive effects typically linked to the aging process, such as memory decline and reduced focus, may stem from the degeneration of brain cells. Recent research indicates that Lion's Mane mushroom extract could actively promote brain health by encouraging the production of nerve growth factor, a compound that fosters the growth and safeguarding of brain cells.

Enhanced Focus

Lion's Mane mushrooms, known for their antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory characteristics, enhance cerebral blood circulation. This increased blood flow delivers more oxygen to brain cells, thereby enhancing cognitive performance. Additionally, these mushrooms may assist in stabilizing mood, particularly when dealing with mild anxiety and depression, potentially mitigating the mental fog often associated with these conditions.

Memory

The contribution of Lion's Mane mushrooms to memory improvement operates on two levels. Firstly, the stimulation of nerve growth factor aids in safeguarding against memory loss symptoms by maintaining the vitality of brain cells. Secondly, studies suggest that Lion's Mane may deter the accumulation of amyloid beta, a substance associated with the brain plaques seen in Alzheimer's disease.

Research

1. Enhanced Cognitive Function:

To better understand Lion's Mane's impact on cognitive function, researchers have conducted a series of studies. One notable study, published in the International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms in 2018, examined the effects of Lion's Mane extract on mice. They tested the memory of the mice by making them run mazes which is a typical memory test when conducting experiments in this field. They fed one group of mice an oral supplement of lion's mane and the other a normal diet. After 2 months the results showed a significant improvement in memory and cognitive abilities in the mice taking lion's mane as a supplement.

2. Nerve Growth Factor Stimulation

In the pursuit of understanding how Lion's Mane stimulates NGF production, a study published in the International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms in 2013 deserves mention. This research conducted in vitro experiments and demonstrated that Lion's Mane significantly increased NGF production. This suggests that Lion's Mane's impact on brain health may indeed be attributed to its ability to stimulate NGF, which is critical for neuronal growth and repair.

3. Reduction of Depression & Anxiety

This 2010 Chinese study found that supplementing with Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceous) showed a significant reduction in depression and anxiety in woman during mensuration. The study had 2 groups, a placebo group who were fed cookies without Lion's Mane in it and a test group who had Lion's Mane added. The woman took the cookies daily for 4 weeks and the Lion's Mane group reported significantly lower scores on their level of depression and anxiety compared to the placebo group.

4. Blood Sugar Regulation

In this study rats were given a methanol extract of Lion's Mane (essentially a tincture) to see the effects it has on the different blood sugar & cholesterol levels compared to rats not given the extract. The study found a significant differance between the rats who used Lion's Mane and the ones who didn't. The Lion's Mane group had lower levels of both blood sugar and cholestrol and found that a 100mg does was more effective then a 20mg dose.

  • Made in British Columbia

All Lion's Mane mushrooms used in our circular health products are grown at our farm in Abbotsford, BC and processed by Forest Floor Remedies in Langley, BC. When you support Circular Harvest you are also supporting the other businesses we collaborate with. Most mushroom supplement companies import their powders from China and do not support our local economy.

  • Whole Fruiting Body

Our health products are made from pure Lion's Mane fruiting bodies, ensuring you get the full spectrum of beneficial compounds. Unlike some companies that use mycelium, a part of the mushroom that grows on grain and can be used as a cheap filler to increase volume, we prioritize your health by offering products with no compromise on the essential compounds you seek.

  • Dual Extracted

The beneficial compounds in Lion's Mane are locked within the cell walls that our bodies cannot naturally digest. To unlock these benefits, the mushroom must undergo a cooking or extraction process. During extraction, certain compounds dissolve in water, while others dissolve in alcohol. By performing a dual extraction, we ensure that we extract the complete range of beneficial compounds from the mushroom, offering you the highest-quality product available.
